We filled the afternoon with some water slide fun

Today started with some bike building

Some Birthday Bike building

Because today a little lady turned seven

she requested a ‘pool party’
So Dave blew up the blow up pool
We invited Uncle Samuel (Dave’s Brother), Aunty Louise (His Wife), Poppy (My Dad), Mashir (My Mum),
my sister and the M&Ms (my sister’s girls) and had a barbeque lunch.
It was a super hot day
So everything got super hot too
Even the chocolate bunny, on her cake, started to melt

So she ate it with no hands

We all had a good day
and for the record
Everyone got a little wet
Some more than others!

A little more chevron play today
Using The Crafters Workshop stencil again

White cardstock
the blue is excess from another page (so the reverse image of the stencil)
Then I used the stencil to apply some texture paste over random places on the stencil
then sprayed over the top with red
Love the texture

Used a Chic Tags Chevron Month Tag
and backed the photo with some Jenni Bowlin packagaing

Pulled out the trusty typewriter for the journaling

They’ve been back at school for a week now
We seem to have found a good routine for the 2 school drop off/pick ups
Hopefully the smiles will continue

The March Cocoa Daisy kit should arrive on my doorstep this week
so today I went to pack up my February kit
But I couldn’t do it!
I was inspired all over and just had to make another page
So I did!

I used the Crafters Workshop chevron stencil again (cos I love love love it)
But this time I used a Jenni Bowlin paint dabber to add the “Lemon Drops” yellow
Love the texture

Layered up some of the Crate Heart Border Stickers
then added some pieces, that aren’t in the kit
The alphas and flair, from American Crafts
the October Afternoon farmhouse little flyer (from the Dec kit)
is topped a studio calico sticker

I love the resin flowers from D-lish scraps, sooooo much!

and finally the story…
“The Mig” is the shortened version of a nickname I call Megan…

Might pack up the kit tomorrow
or maybe not
inspiration might hit again
and who knows where that will lead!!!

I used the leftovers of a new Scrapmatts packet of Flowers on this page

yup, love these types of leftovers

gorgeous details (and there is actually a slit that you could add a card or flowers)

Another new product are these super yummy name plates

and I used the same design idea with an older piece to make another card

the “Happy” I heat embossed with different colours
love how it looks and just might use this technique again some time

Starting to scrap again
I tend to start off with quick, easy pages
Ones that require little think time
(because it usually takes me a while to get back into the groove)
I’ve been wanting to make a page for the Kraft It Up challenge
(because it’s my favourite)
this months challenge is to scrap about love and to use pink
so, inspired, I created this page

covered up part of The Crafters Workshop Chevron mask
and pulled out my red glimmer mist and my white Studio Calico mist
(because we all know red+white=pink)

I used some Scrapmatts leaves
(because they are new)

Story about the ladybird
(the wooden one not the live one)
Mum gave me a gift box for my birthday
(it contained my present)
and on top were MANY of the wooden ladybirds
so I thought I would use one on this page

Seems like I haven’t scrapped in ages
I know it’s not quite ages
just seems that way
no time, no time
But when I have found a few seconds
I have been ‘mucking about’ and making cards
not many
just a couple

this one uses pieces from the February Cocoa Daisy kit and the teacup stamp from January
While this one features alpha stickers from the January kit and the gorgeous trim from the February

Love playing with the new kit and mixing in some old
Speaking of which there is a little challenge, to do just this, over on the Cocoa Daisy forum

The February “By The Numbers” kit is A…M…A…Z…I…N…G!
I popped open the Cocoa Daisy box and the inspiration just bubbled out and I was off
Creating up a storm
The first page I made was about this Pretty Fella

Love the stamps that were on offer this month

and the endless possibilities that are at your fingertips

For this page I used the My Minds Eye Patchwork Party paper to create my own peacock
I simply cut out a section of the paper,
added a Tim Holtz number ‘1’
and some splashes of colour with Kaiser Pearls (found in the Barcode addon kit)

My second page was created because I looooove the My Minds Eye Countdown paper
The Chevron pattern side

I wrapped one of the 7gypsies metal pins in the twine from the Crate trims (found in the Barcode Add on)

So I am hoping to crack it open again soon
and watch the inspiration bubble out again

I love phone calls from Dave
and more than that

Today was a day with one of those phone calls
and he surprised the girls by pulling out the water slide

because of our backyard we hadn’t been using the waterslide
But with Dave’s backyard blitzing there is now room for a waterslide
And some little people loved it

today has also been a good day
because
My February Cocoa Daisy kit arrived
I opened it and was inspired straight away
So much so that I cut into a piece of pattern paper about 5 minutes after opening the box!

the kit reveal happens this weekend
and I think this one will be a sell out

As well as receiving the kit (with the embellishment kit and stamps)
I also purchased the “Barcode”, extra paper and stencil.
All of which are amazingly good.

Today we spent the day with the M&Ms (and their mum)
We spent the morning at a school holiday activity
Where the girls got to make a “Bush Puppet”
Using paper bags, paper scraps and bits, like leaves twigs etc
They were able to make a native animal of their choosing

Fruit
I love it
Love summer because the variety of fruit available seems endless

Books
Summer holidays means more time to take the girls to the library
They chow down on these almost as quick as they do with the fruit!

Water
When it’s hot, as it was today, I love that we can play with water
Tonight, after dinner, the girls went back in the pool
Clothes and all
They weren’t the only ones to get completely wet
Love that too!

Storms
I love thunderstorms
They bring many memories
As do summer
and Summer school holidays.
I love that we are creating memories for little people
I hope they remember summer school holidays fondly.

I knew how I wanted to use it

But now it’s back and better than ever

I’d been waiting for ‘my space’ so I could continue creating with the January Cocoa Daisy kit
”Tea and Cupcakes” is a gorgeous combination of colours through an array of papers and embellishments
I also purchased some addons “Red Velvet”, “Whipped Cream and Sprinkles” and “Cream and Sugar”

A while ago now the lovely Linda sent me a copy of Marthe Le Van’s Stencil Me In
I have been coveting it ever since
Until now
The Lady/girl stencil was perfect for this page
So I used it, along with some Purple glimmer mist, right here

and the journaling

Moving right along, third page

I cut up a Sassafras Lass sticker

added a Sassafras Lass flower middle

an American Crafts tag and felt cupcake

and added the journaling to a Sass Lass journal tag
I love that this months kits have loads of Sassafras Lass
Going to miss their products

I also used some Sassafras Lass stickers with some Crate stickers
To make this quick ATC

Also available this month is a Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s The Crafters Workshop stencil

I used it twice
On this project I sprayed the “top” with some Studio Calico Atmosphere Mr Huey
Flipped it onto my paper and stamped the words onto the cardstock
I then cleaned off the stencil
and used it as a mask while I sprayed a rainbow of colours over the top
I then sprayed some white Mr Huey before drawing around the letters

on the second project I reversed the process

I sprayed a rainbow of colours
Then added the stencil
before misting over the top with the Atmosphere Mr Huey

All of this made me wish I had a 12x12 canvas
But I did enjoy playing and getting inky

I have recently “refound” a love for ATCs and when I saw the sketch I just knew I wanted to use a column of ATCs instead of photos.
I also really love white space so, initially, I found the sketch daunting but by flipping it
and keeping the overall design intact I was able to create a page that I really like and one that still represents my own style.
This year has been a very busy one and I used this layout to reflect what things I hope the new year will bring.
I want to DREAM big, INSPIRE others and LIVE fully.
The Scrapmatts words were a perfect addition, to the ATCs/page,
and also an excuse to play with glitter and the Altered Artifacts Steampunks are just pure fun.

Orange, Blue and Grey… One of my favourite colour combinations and when I saw it I was eager to play.
I often only use one photo to tell my story and it’s not too often that I will make a double paged layout,
so my first challenge was to create something that was more ‘me’.
I used a number stencil and some mist to fill my first page and then stitched my title across the two pages, thus linking the photo.
I added splashes of orange by cutting up a doily and adding some butterflies,
which I rubbed on to some dressmaking pattern paper so they would be light and delicate looking.

I took this photo some time ago but have always loved it.
With school reports coming home recently it was the perfect time to pull out this photo
and scrap about how our eldest daughter is growing up and how proud we are of her.
While this page is 12x12, I was able to cut the cardstock to allow the pattern paper to hang off the edge of the page,
representing the growth, the butterflies also represent the changes
and growth and lastly the dates also so a change in time.
I added some paint, to the Crate pattern paper, to add some grunge to an otherwise ‘pretty’ page.

Single Layout – HIDDEN JOURNALING

Title : He is a good man
Materials:

Cardstock: American Crafts
Lettering: American Crafts and Basic Grey
Paper Clip: American Crafts

Other: Washi Tape,shipping tags, twine, sharpie pen, staples, date stamp, ink and machine stitching.

When I asked for my gorgeous Husband to ‘stage’ this photo he did so without too many frowns
and it was very worthy of this layout that came together from the depths of my imagination.
The page is constructed of other things I love to play with… Shipping tags are an all-time favourite
and if I can use ‘leftovers’ I am a very happy girl.
I pulled off the backing sheet, from some Basic Grey alphas, and stuck this onto a piece of blue cardstock.
I then back this with some black cardstock to give the photo the ‘pop’ it needed.
My journaling is hidden behind the shipping tag on an area cut away from the sticker sheet.
I used the orange washi tape to cut some scallop edges to also make the title pop.
I also cut the bottom off the paper clip, so it didn’t impose on the coloured in ‘d’ (the initial of my good man’s name).

Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String

Today the mailman delivered an unexpected envelope
a yellow one
I love yellow envelopes
and this one was extra special
It contained a copy of the Scrapbooking Memories Magazine
the masters edition
AND the reason I received one
AND in a yellow envelope???
was because I had a layout in it
a layout that was picked for an honourable mention!!
Super special surprise that was made even more special
because my layout was right next to a layout by my pal Debbie, who encouraged me to enter the competition.
Who’d have thought!

Today has been a very fruitful day
even though I’ve sneezed my way through it
With calendar showing NOTHING for today
and the lovely Gina coming to visit
I pulled out my December Cocoa Daisy kits and got to work
This month I had the Amber Snowflake kit as well as
the Frosty Window Pane, Cocoa And Marshmallows and the Fireside Chat addons

I love these Christmas decorations that Dave’s Mum bought while she was in Norway
Love the grey and red combo

adore the wooden snowflakes from Maya Road
I inked one (the darker one) with the Weather Vane Jenni Bowlin ink
the others were misted with Graphite Glimmer Mist

I even added the tag from the decorations

This page is all about our little visit from Dave’s Mum

and how Dave bought us hotcakes for breakfast

Star Of Wonder

This morning we took the girls to see Santa
This afternoon Dave put up MORE Christmas lights
and tonight
I added a new Christmas blog banner (although I’m not happy with the size/shape of it…)
and some Christmas music
And
it’s only 15 sleeps till Christmas
This week I uploaded some creations to the Scrapmatts gallery
I used the 3D Christmas Tree 01 (CB4053)

painted it in Antique white and added some yummy Lindt chocolates

I made a simple notebook using the leftovers from Music Notes 02

and a quick card using the grater from the new Kitchenware range (kitchenware 03)

So Tell Me I May Always Dance

The week is slipping by so fast
and yet every day seems to feel like Friday
what is with that??
Monday saw Elizabeth back at school
Her specialist appointment was a success and with a little more healing she is all good
Tuesday was our 14th wedding anniversary
Dave had the day off and we started with breakfast, after we dropped the girls off at school

We then completed some of our Christmas shopping before having lunch back at home
Wednesday night saw us at the first of two end of year performances
This one was for Megan and Jessica’s grades
All the classes had performances, which were a reflection of their work from this year
All were spectacular
It was also a night to honour the work of the teachers and formal farewell and presentation for the Grade 6s
Tomorrow I’m in canteen for the last canteen day and also have a smaller scrap session with the Grade 6s
We will be working on a final page as well as a Christmas page
Have been scrapping but it’s been slow going and I have a few on the go
I made this one for Tracy Martin Scrapbook Designs

using the Milestones kit

I also added some Such Sweet Tierney chipboard buttons

and a dyed doily from the ChipChopShop on Etsy

and the journaling, to go with the photo Megan took of her cousin

Make Me Normal From Now On

Tomorrow Elizabeth is going back to school
Only for an hour or two
before her appointment with the specialist
then if she’s not too tired I’ll drop her off for the rest of the day
She’s been coming along really well
Lost a bit of weight, most noticeably around her face
Will see what the doctor has to say
But I’m guessing it’s two thumbs up!
Things aren’t slowing down much though and I will share more about that in my next post
but I just wanted to start on the bloggy bandwagon again

Review–Fisher Price 1-2-3 Crawl-Along Snail

I just love taking our kids to the toy store
Watching their faces as they find a favourite toy
or see something new
I love stores where you can feel comfortable enough to press the buttons on the noisy toys
This week I received a Fisher-Price 1-2-3 Crawl-Along Snail as part of Product Talk by Nuffnang

I was hoping it would be delivered while I had some toddlers around to ‘test’ it out
But that wasn’t to be
But after the week we have had this toy added some spark to a little girls day
I love the tunes that the toy plays and with 2 volume settings AND an off switch
it made me wonder why more toys don’t come with them!

The toy has a cute giggle and plays 3 short tunes, including “If your happy and you know it”
The lady bird on top slides across the top of the snail for some added movement
The mirror is also a great addition
I love it when little kids discover their reflection
and because the snail can be locked into a stationary position
it means a baby can lie or sit and look at itself and become aware of themselves
When the snail isn’t in the lock position it is great for the crawler
A baby can chase it around the room and tap it along to make it move some more
The toy is bright, loud and fun
just perfect for the recommended 3-36 month age group
It comes with batteries, which is ALWAYS helpful
The packaging was also ‘parent friendly’
There is a perforated hole to punch from the back of the box
and then 2 simple ‘locks’ to untwist and wow the snail is free!
Gotta love it when the packaging isn’t a nightmare lol

A Pocketful Of Posies

I made a few pages for the recent Tattered Angels design team call
Thought I’d share them with you, being that the team has now been picked and I like to share

The page is in honour of the gorgeous flowers I received for my Almost 40 days to 40 birthday
They are from my pal Rose (aka Rosie Posie)

I used a glimmer glass butterfly from the Tattered Angels Glimmer glass album as a mask
misted over it with some “Fully Purple” glimmer mist

added some flowers, that I purchased from D-lish Scraps

and gave my dymo a run with some pink tape

Elizabeth’s operation went well and so is her recovery
Today she’s started to have a little more pain and discomfort
but I think that the morning we had really didn’t help
Jessica was home today and we spent the morning at the doctor
and then the chemist, getting medicine for Jessica’s sinus infection
This afternoon we rested
Reading up on tonsillectomies I have read that day 4-6 are meant to be the most painful
So hoping she gets through the next few days as well as she has so far.

She’d had one on Monday
but was back today for a skin biopsy
today they took a 3mm cylinder shaped chunk
Megan was so brave
I am so proud of her
She now has a stitch on her palm
They took it from a spot where her skin has hardened
We go back in over a week for the results and hopefully moving on to the real reason we went there

I printed the square dotty one onto masking tape, using this technique

With October drawing to a close
I thought I would quickly create something for the October Aussie Scrap Jack challenge
I chose Mandy Dodd’s gorgeous page to scraplift

I used a photo of a candle holder Megan made at Guides recently
From Mandy’s layout I “lifted” the grey cardstock, used the same rose ribbon (which I had in yellow)

and kept a similar design
although I added some pattern paper strips

also kept the white pen journaling and buttons

Loved the inspiration to create, thanks Mandy!

It’s reveal time over at Cocoa Daisy
The “Bed & Breakfast” kit is just gorgeous
I’ve made 2 layouts for reveal
and am looking forward to playing more with the kit
especially for all the amazing challenges that are going to be happening at the crop in a couple of weeks

In some home news:
Megan has had the opportunity to help write, direct, shoot and edit a film for the My State Film Festival competition with her school.
The school ended up entering 4 films and she’s excited that her film is now open for voting in the People’s Choice award.
You can view the film HERE and to vote you need to press one of the share buttons, in fact you can press all 300+ share buttons if you desired to do so (?!).
You don’t have to actually share it if you don’t want to, just press a share button, but I know she’d appreciate your vote (as would the other kids who took part in the film) and passing on the link so others can vote too.
She isn’t in the film because she was behind the camera for all of it. She loves LOVES LOVES this kind of thing
both the grade 6 teachers have told me how well she did with the job and how good she is at
I just love the way she has been enthusiastic about the whole process and how much she enjoys this creative outlet
I hope she gets to do something like this again in the future because it’s been a joy to watch

I Recommend Biting Off More Then You Can Chew

Back in June, while in Brisbane at the Scrapbook Expo,
the lovely Debbie and I were discussing the new Paper Tape that had just hit the scrappy market
I said how we could probably make our own, being the thrifty person that I am lol
Well, this week Debbie experimented with some craters tape and paper
She printed off some text and was generous enough to send me a sheet
and that’s it there, on my page.
Inspired I thought I would make some too
Here is mine

and here’s how I made mine

I used plain old everyday masking tape and a cut off piece of transparency
I put strips of tape on the transparency

and simply used Microsoft Word to print out lines of numbers

and dots

I also ran tape on the back and printed on that side too
I wondered if my printer would pick up the paper, given it was smaller than A4, but it did
I’ve found the tape comes off the transparency better than the paper
I’ve also found that the ink doesn’t dry very quickly on the tape and will smudge off the transparency
So to overcome this problem I used some paper towel and lifted off the excess ink

The People Walk In Crooked Lines

Won’t tell you that we’ve been busy
will just let you guess that we have

Today I went to watch Megan and Jessica at the Interprimary school swimming carnival
Jessica was meant to swim in the backstroke event but got swapped to the freestyle
You could just see her go “ooh” when she was told
I could just see her thinking… me…. freestyle… oh well! lol
Anyway it didn’t phase her too much because she swam really well and…

please don’t ask about the cap on the cap… It’s Jessica and you’re better off not pondering it too hard
It might hurt if you did!!
Megan swam in the backstroke and also the backstroke leg for the medley relay
She came second for both

and is now off to the Champions swim carnival held next month
AND she is very VERY happy to have the chance to do so!
It still has me in awe, how far she has come. Just over 3 years ago she would have got upset about going in the water
She amazes me!

Yesterday I spied a blog post about my blog post
I think that is a little bit awesome!

The other days…
I’ve been busy playing with the “Bed and Breakfast” kit from Cocoa Daisy
I can’t tell you how cool this kit is!
I also purchased a few add ons (Wicker & Wine + Country Store), which are equally cool
and now I can share a sneak or two

the stamp in the main kit is GORGEOUS!

Thanks to blue sky and sunshine
today we met with my sister and the M&Ms
We met at a park which has a bike track for the kids

They loved it

and after some lunch we headed to Mum and Dads
And the girls found a new garage sale purchase

so we took it for a run

and all of us had fun

and yes I said all of us

and when you ride it down
you have to pull it back up

see I told you we all had fun

even when we almost stack it!

and even when we are pretending that we could go super fast!!

You Are The Reason Why I Smile

A couple of weeks ago I had a message through Two Peas
I thought it was a spam
But it turned out that the lovely Jen Gallacher was writing
to ask if I wanted to be a guest for her regular Stretch Your Sketch challenge
I was totally surprised
and of course said yes
and then got creating for the October challenge, which you can view here
This is what I created

and this is the sketch that I based it on

I altered the sketch a little
I flipped the sketch, turning each page 90degrees anticlockwise.
I also squished it a little.
I replaced the three photos with one big one,
used a row of misted numbers instead of the row of tags,

replaced the separate photo with a journal tag and extended the journaling to fill the space.
I also switched the title to the diagonally opposite corner.

Another unique day
* Played and created this page for the October Scrap The Girls challenge

The challenge is to distress and use “love” in the title
I misted with 2 mists
Key Lime Pie (green) and then over the top (while it was still wet) with Dark Denim

I distressed the photo

I used a SEI number 4 sticker to create the 4 with some Jillibean Soup paper

* A wonderfully sunny day meant I could get out in the garden
    I am hoping to grow more in my herb garden, which is under the apple tree
    Today I added some sad looking basil and coriander
    I also moved some chives into this patch
    Thriving away already are sage, oregano, thyme and Vietnamese mint
    In another spot I have a huge rosemary bush
    I’d love to add some more herbs, not sure what just yet

* We stopped into the post office after school
    and bought some afternoon tea

The post office is conjoined with a bakery
So we bought a boston bun

* On the way out Miss Elizabeth spied something
    It’s usually something with littlest pet shop that she has a good eye for
    Today was no different
    So she got to spend her pocket money

because this bag contained

and for the bargain price of $12.95 she added another littlest pet shop to her RATHER LARGE collection
and a new Blythe doll too!

one that comes with her own i-pod!

So that was my day!

My Angel Wings Were Bruised And Restrained

It could have been an ordinary day
With school runs and washing
But there were a few things that made today unique

* On the way to school, this afternoon, I saw Father’s Christmas incognito.
   He was wearing a 2 piece grey tracksuit and waiting at the bus stop.
   Very good disguise Santa but you didn’t fool me!!

* I finished typing up the journaling (see yesterday’s post)
    which was good because it also meant I could finish this page

yep
seriously bananas!

got my ziggy on with the sewing machine

and the story, that brings the page alive

* I made a batch of sausage rolls
    chicken mince, carrot, bbq sauce and cheese
    easy sausage rolls
    might have the cheese ratio a little off still
    but they are still a winner!

* I fixed the car radio well I didn’t really fix it, it fixed itself… somehow!
    Not long after we bought the car, 4+ years ago, Dave broke the radio well he didn’t really break it, it just stopped working… somehow!
    So we have been radio-less since then
    Today I was looking at it, as I drove home from school this morning, and I thought the LCD screen looked different
    so I pushed the on button and WOW it worked!!
    Told the girls I fixed it
    When Dave got home, from work, the girls bragged that I had fixed it will let them think I did for a while!

* Jessica finished a little project she started yesterday
    I was impressed that 1. she started it and 2. finished it so quickly
    She had a kit but all the pieces weren’t in it so she cut the bits that were missing
    She did it all by herself and didn’t ask for help, other than rethreading the needle a couple of times

So that was my day!

Cookin’ In The Kitchen Of Love

Tonight Dave, chef 2, and Elizabeth, chef 2 served up the dessert that they made today

the recipe has been floating around for… can’t think how long
Dave found it again this week
so some of the ingredients ended up on the shopping list

Dave made the short crust pastry from scratch

don’t know what happened to the meringue peaks

maybe they need to practice that one a little more!
I’m told it is delicious
So I am looking forward to finding out if it really is!!

I Will Let You Into My Laboratory Filled With Many Things

On my desk today

it’s been that way since yesterday
I was typing up some journaling, on a good ol’ shipping tag.
I was typing up some journaling while I had a quiet minute
that quiet minute disappeared when Lucy was sick
So my journaling sat waiting for a new quiet minute
Wasn’t today
Found head lice eggs on poor old Lucy
Poor kid!
Sick and head lice
Poor kid!
Thankfully there were only eggs
I took as many as I could out
and the rest have had a dose of treatment ointment
So hoping that’s the end of that too!!!

Better Out Than In, Man!

This morning Lucy had a birthday party to go to, for one of her classmates

We got almost there when she called out to pull over
She wasn’t feeling well
So we dropped off the present
Only to find that the birthday girl and 4 others had been struck down by a belly bug
We came home
and it wasn’t till almost 2 that poor little Lucy was finally sick
Hoping it doesn’t spread through our household!

Ah, Don't Go Acting The Fool, Curl

Today I went with Elizabeth’s class on an excursion
We went to Bonorong Wildlife Park
And someone was 1. in their element and 2. Loving it!!

It must be spring
because we saw baby kangaroos
baby Tasmanian Devils

baby wombats (which this one isn’t)

and baby koalas (again this one isn’t)

but we enjoyed everything we saw
and enjoyed the cold day out and about
with the animals

Will leave you with a conversation from our dining table:
Megan has been calling her teacher Mr S instead of his surname
So the conversation started with that in mind…
E: “Megan why do you call Mr S Mr S?”
Me: “Yeah M!?” (trying to make a point but it was soon to be lost!)
J: “Yeah thanks for dinner D&M… Oh no that should be D&S”
Me: “yeah we are a DS”
J: “Well, good things do go together”…..

Hopefully you get the gist of the conversation and it isn’t one of those “had to be there” conversations!
Just glad she thinks we are good things and do go together lol
